The Gathering Place has recently designated new levels of giving in order to conduct outreach to community businesses, organizations and individuals who would like to join us in supporting our mission. We are currently seeking organizations to partner with in becoming a Capitol Donor, which provides a strong lead for our current initiatives of continued health and wellness services to our community and in maintaining our facility for the future. We of course welcome all level of donors and have a Pay Pal account for your online donation convenience!
Organizations and businesses who become a donor will be able to have their logo featured on our website as community business and organizational supporters of TGP and will also be mentioned in our monthly newsletters. Individual donor names will also have a designated page to show our appreciation of their support! We are a federally recognized tax-exempt organization and can provide appropriate documentation for your records.
The Gathering Place is opening up a Co-occurring Mental Health and Addiction Recovery House and we need your support now more than ever! Our recently purchased 34 W. Washington House will become a 5-bedroom single family recovery house, deemed as best practice for successful recovery for individuals who are struggling with addiction. The Gathering Place will be opening the first of its kind in state, a Recovery House which will serve individuals with mental illness and addiction. We will be following Quality Standards for Recovery Housing by Ohio Housing Corporation and supported by OhioMHAS. Please consider donating for 2018 to this project!
Personal Care Products Needed: Please consider donating 12 ounce bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, deodorant, or feminine hygiene products, single pack toothbrushes, full size toothpaste, and small containers of laundry soap. This is a collaborative project with Appalachian Behavioral Health and The Gathering Place members, staff, interns and volunteers- we are making discharge bags for patients being integrated back into community life from the hospital. There are about 100 patient discharges a month and we have a goal of making 300 bags by end of March! Many of these basic items we take for granted, but the expense is often out of reach for this population of our community!
Health and Wellness Programming:
Part of our programming for mental health and wellness includes: recreational activities such as bowling, karaoke, game and movie nights, and attending off site community events that integrate our members into healthy community life; arts activities such as music group, poetry group and collaboration with local artist studios, that also provide an outlet for support and recovery; and providing thrice weekly healthy meals that supplement our at-risk population’s food security issues.
Facility Upgrades and Improvements: 2017-2018
Our drop-in center/house at 7 North Congress is a beautiful facility and serves over 150 different individuals a year, and as a non-profit organization, it is our duty to take the responsibility of maintaining the asset of the building for future generations of Athenians suffering from mental illness issues.
After upgrades to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors in 2015-2016, The Gathering Place is once again embarking on improvements to serve our members and community. With funds from the 317 Board and Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville, we are currently upgrading 2nd floor bathroom into two smaller bathrooms to serve more. Our kitchen expansion will also begin in March 2018 and will expand from 144 square ft. to 494 square ft. We are excited to focus more on our food program and expand our canning and freezing capabilities from our garden project and donations received by CFI. We will also be able to include more members and volunteers in weekly meal preparation with more room for all to work!
